Course Overview 

This series of classes is for Chiropractic Technicians (CTs) seeking initial certification or for CTs seeking continuing education hours.  CTs who are taking this for initial certification need to take the sessions related to the duties they will be performing in office.  

Please note the Physiological Therapeutics Overview is a prerequisite for Thermotherapy/Cryotherapy, Electrotherapy, Ultrasound and Traction/Mechanical Therapy.

Coffee, meals and snacks will be available for purchase in the cafeteria, which is next to the conference center.

Friday July 28

12pm: Chiropractic Principles 
This course will discuss the basic premises of chiropractic including a brief history, healthcare integration, general chiropractic treatment, and introduction to common conditions. 

1pm: Patient History 
Required for CTs who take any patient history outside the presence of the chiropractor. The subjective portion of the S.O.A.P. note format (Subjective, Objective, Assessment and Plan) will be taught. This method is part of a system or organizing the patient record called the "promlem oriented record." The SOAP format is the most widely used type of documentation in the health care industry. Please bring 2 copies of the following office forms if you use them:

Patient Intake Form
History/Exam Form
Daily Note Form
Update Form

5pm: Preliminary Physical Examinations/Vital Signs
Course required for CTs involved in the preliminary chiropractic examination. Includes obtaining vital signs -- patient's height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, and noting other physical characteristics that do not require the use of instruments or more extensive diagnostic procedures. Attendees should bring a blood pressure cuff and stethoscope.

Saturday July 29

8am: Musculoskeletal Anatomy 
This course will introduce the student to basic musculoskeletal anatomy so that they can identify common landmarks, regions, and musculature treated within a chiropractic office.

12pm: Physiological Therapeutics Overview 
This overview course is required before CT who preform any physiological therapeutic modalities in the office. Thew program will also include descriptions of basic elements of various modalities and will feature interactive demonstrations. CTs are only required to take the specific modules for those therapies they plan to perform in the office. Overall the course will cover the history and concepts of chiropractic physiological therapeutics followed by Scope of Application; The Healing Process; Indications of Pain

4pm: Thermo- and Cryotherapy*
Application; Pack Types; Methods & Applications; Physiological effects; Indications & contraindications. *Prerequisite Physiological Therapeutics Overview

Sunday July 30

8am: Electrotherapy*
Physiological basis & Classification; Interference: Indication & contraindication; Therapy parameters; Electrode placement.

10:30am: Therapeutic Ultrasound*
Application; Dosage & time; Physics; Physiological effects.; Indications & contraindications.

12:30pm: Traction and Mechanical Therapy*
Long Axis & Intersegmental Traction Types; Principles; Physiological effects

Course Instructor

Brenda Holland, DC, DICCP is a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. Since graduation, she has served on chiropractic and community boards and committees. Dr. Holland has been actively teaching courses including anatomy, x-ray positioning, nutrition and therapy modalities. She has an advance degree in pediatrics and pregnancy and is currently in active practice in Germantown.
