This series of classes is for staff seeking initial certification as a Chiropractic Technician (CT) and for CTs adding modalities to their current license or seeking continuing education hours. Full course descriptions are listed below.

8am - 9am Chiropractic Principles 1 CE 
This course will discuss the basic premises of chiropractic including a brief history, healthcare integration, general chiropractic treatment, and introduction to common conditions.

9am - 1pm Patient History 4 CE 
Required for CTs who take any patient history outside the presence of the chiropractor. Topics covered include the subjective portion of the S.O.A.P. note format (Subjective, Objective, Assessment and Plan), which is the most widely used type of documentation in the health care industry, will be taught. This method is part of a system for organizing the patient record called the “problem oriented record.” Please bring 2 copies of the following office forms if you use them: • Patient Intake Form • History/Exam Form • Daily Note Form • Update Form

1pm - 5pm Musculoskeletal Anatomy 4 CE 
This course will introduce the student to basic musculoskeletal anatomy so that they can identify common landmarks, regions, and musculature treated within a chiropractic office.

Saturday, February 3 8.5CE
8am - 11am Preliminary Physical Examinations 3 CE
Course required for CTs involved in the preliminary chiropractic examination. Includes obtaining vital signs - patient’s height, weight, temperature, blood pressure - and noting other physical characteristics that do not require the use of instruments or more extensive diagnostic procedures. Attendees should bring the following if they have one available: • Blood pressure cuff • Stethoscope

11am - 3pm Physiological Therapeutics Overview 4 CE
This overview course is the prerequisite for taking any of the physiological therapeutic modality courses such as Traction, Thermotherapy, Ultrasound and Electrotherapy. It is designed for chiropractic technicians who perform any physiological therapeutic modalities in the office and includes descriptions of the basic elements of various modalities. This course features interactive demonstrations and also covers the history and concepts of chiropractic physiological therapeutics followed by scope of application, the healing process and indications of pain. Chiropractic technicians are only required to take the specific therapies they plan to perform in the office.

3pm - 4:30pm Traction & Mechanical Therapy* 1.5 CE 
Topics covered include: • Long axis & intersegmental traction types • Principles • Physiological effects

Sunday, February 4 6.5 CE
8am - 10am Thermotherapy & Cryotherapy* 2 CE
Topics covered include: • Application pack types • Methods & applications • Physiological effects • Indications & contraindications

10am - 12:30pm Electrotherapy* 2.5 CE
Topics covered include: • Physiological basis & classification • Interference indication & contraindications • Therapy parameters • Electrode placement

12:30pm - 2:30pm Therapeutic Ultrasound* 2 CE
Topics covered include: • Application dosage & time • Physics physiological effects • Indications & contraindications

Dr. Brenda Holland, DC, DICCP is a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic. Since graduation, she has served on numerous chiropractic and community boards and committees. Dr. Holland has been actively teaching courses including anatomy, x-ray positioning, nutrition & therapy modalities.
